Photoshop is the most known photo editing software, but it is not for everyone. Because price is a great factor for you. But there are great Photoshop alternatives!! Here you can look at the advantages and disadvantages of Photoshop and GIMP. Read through and decide which software is better for you and your work.


 GIMP ( GNU Image Manipulation Program ) -

 GIMP is a free and open-source raster    graphics editor used for image   manipulation and image editing, free-     form drawing, transcoding between   different image file formats, and more   specialized tasks. GIMP is released   under GPLv3+ license and is available   for Linux, macOS, and Microsoft  Windows. 


Pros / Advantages of Using GIMP -  

 

 1.)  The biggest advantage is that the software is free.

2.)  GIMP can run from a external drive, cloud, or local folder without installing into the computer system.

3.)  Also Photoshop files can be opened in GIMP 

4.)  GIMP is faster than Photoshop when you are working with smaller photos.

5.)  It is a user-friendly software for absolute beginners.

 Cons / Disadvantages of Using GIMP -


1.)  GIMP cannot handle anything except 8bit rgb ( 8 bits to represent each of the color channels red, green, blue ).

2.)  Contains less third-party plugins as compared to Photoshop.

3.)  Also it has less tools for editing as compared to Photoshop.

4.)  It does not perform well if you are editing big images with lots of layers. 

5.)  Creating an arc shape in GIMP may be difficult.

Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and  published  by Adobe Inc. for Windows and macOS. It was originally created in 1988 by Thomas and John Knoll. Since then, the software has become the industry standard not only in raster graphics editing, but in digital art as a whole.

Pros / Advantages of Using Photoshop -



1.Importing photo is easy to import into the Photoshop Homescreen.

2.) The most common advantages of the Adobe Photoshop are it's  tools and quick access ability to perform any  simple or complicated editing of photos.

3.) And to edit photos is also easy because Photoshop provides all the tools very easily and neatly.

4.) People are using Photoshop not only for their simple editing purposes but also as a professional to make and design different aspects of the user requirements.

5.) The editing of simple photos are not only the advantages of the Photoshop but also it provided a number of tools for the different subject according to the need of the users.


Cons / Disadvantages of Using Photoshop -


1.) Those who are beginners to photoshop, they may find the interface of the photoshop difficult.

2.) The price of photoshop is very high. The big organizations or institutional experts can afford but not the small time users.

3.) High-quality graphics are very difficult to render as the size of the file is large, it consumes more time to load and finally results in decrease in the work performance of the users. 

4.) It consumes very large amount of space in hard disk of your device's system. You should use a large hard disk which has a much memory space.

5.) Photoshop does not provide vector graphics.


Conclusion - 


So both programs offer almost the same things but still Photoshop makes use of stronger tools and offers a stronger pixel manipulation than GIMP. Now comes the price. Those who can afford the Photoshop Subscription and use the program everyday then you can surely go for it, and there are many plans available. GIMP is free, giving constant of free updates. Also it can be more than enough is you are not heavily processing your images.

  2. Gimp works and feels like Photoshop. It has practically all the principal tools and some Photoshop features with similar functions. The best feature of Gimp is that the application is lightweight. The base application itself is just about a 200mb download. You will get non destructive editing features using GIMP 3.2. Professional photographers use GIMP for basic photo editing of raw file.
